Exploring Murcia – my top ten places to see

Built between 1737-51, the rather splendid Baroque façade
Just as spectacular by night!
The 90 metre high belltower (95 metres if you include the weather vane!)
The offending slogan carved on the cathedral wall, right next to the Puerta de las Cadenas, the main visitor entrance.
The Bishops’ Palace
Balconies on the Bishops’ Palace decorated with flowers for fiesta.
El Puente Viejo
The fountains in front of the Casa Consistorial (Murcia city hall), which overlooks the river Segura

La niña de la Flores, (the Flower girl) by sculptor José Fuentes Aynar.

A section of the Muslim-era city wall
Lots and lots of pots!
Visible for miles around, the Cristo de Monteagudo
The massive Christ statue built on the remains of a Muslim-era castle
El Santuario de la Virgen de la Fuensanta set against the green mountains of El Valle y Carrascoy Park.
A great panorama over the city of Murcia below.
The Santuario interior. Tip – take a couple of €1 coins to put the lights on, so you can see the ornate altarpiece. Otherwise it’s a bit gloomy inside.
Cafe-Bar Verónicas, right next to the back door of the market.
Ensaladilla rusa, Cafe-Bar Verónicas
Eating in the bar, Pura Cepa
La Pequeña Taberna – dining inside and on the terrace
Marinera
Pastel de carne – versions include carrilleras (beef cheeks) rabo de toro (oxtail) or carne molida (mince)

Great write-up about the highlights of Murcia, Guy. We need to go back there and check out some of the sights you mentioned that we weren’t aware of before.
